Preparing for runDisney: Choosing The Right Running Shoes

In my efforts to prepare for my upcoming races, I needed a new running shoe. I was surprised at how many options and factors are involved in selecting the best one. I thought all I had to do was buy a shoe that was designed for running in a color and style that I liked, wrong!

Your running style and running type should influence your shoe selection. For example, a trail running shoe is different than a road running shoe. They each support your foot differently for the terrain.

I also never thought to think of the wear pattern on my old shoes. They in turn tell me what my running style is, whether neutral pronation, overpronation, or supination. All terms I had never heard before. REI has a nice article that explains all the options very well. Here’s the link

Choosing the wrong running shoe can not only lead to a painful run, but also to injury. It’s clear to me now that it’s not about the color of the running shoe, style, or logo on it, but instead what my running needs are.
